A Great Fair Trade Boutique in San Diego!

Fair trade provides under and unemployed artisans from around the world with an opportunity to earn a livable wage and improve their quality of life by establishing a sustainable market for their products

The Unity Center in San Diego believes in giving back to the global community and does this by selling fair trade products.  In 2007 they partnered with Exotic World Gifts so that they could provide a wide range of high quality fair trade gift items to members of their community and the public.

This partnership, combined with the congregation's passion for hand-crafted fair trade gift items, has grown into "Partners Fair Trade Boutique" one of the largest Fair Trade stores in all of San Diego.

When you purchase a beautiful product from our "Partners" not only are you helping to provide a sustainable income for these great artists, you are also helping to fund our micro-finance projects around the world.   The Unity Center's boutique is located at 8999 Activity Road San Diego 92126 and is open after the 9 & 11am services.  It is well worth the trip!

Had a great time with Fair Trade supporters at K & B Wine Cellars.  K & B offered their Fair Trade Vodka and Fair Trade liquors at 10% off that night.  Everyone sampled Fair Trade chocolate and enjoyed appetizers!

"FAIR is the world's first and unique Fair Trade Certified line of spirits. We respect about 200 rules to make sure that we pay the farmers at a fair price. It enables them to cover their production costs, live from farming, educate their children and build schools.

We're happy, the famers are happy, and we're sure you'll be happy with our FAIR Spirits."

The Purpose (Around the World Gifts)

Oktoberfest Fair Trade

Gift Faire was a success!

It was a great event in La Mesa!  Over 400 people shopped for Fair Trade products at the Oktoberfest Fair Trade Gift Faire.  We thank Rigo of Cafe Virtuoso, Ephraim from Ben & Jerry's, Jeanne from Cool Beans Chocolate, Torrey & Chase of Cafe Moto, Sharry from Dr. Bronners, Lucia from Malia Designs, Antoine from VavaVida, Jude from Fair Trade Decor, Evangley from Around the World Gifts and more.  Fair Trade samples of honey sticks, bubble gum, sugar and more were up for grabs! It is exciting to see SDSU coming on board with Fair Trade and "tableing" at this event.  Check out Fair Trade SDSU, to continue the momentum of a Fair Trade campus.

Also available were Fair Trade soda from Maine Root and Runa Iced Teas.  As you are "out and about" in San Diego, please  check out our local Fair Trade vendors.  They make a difference and choose "the higher road".  Products are not sourced from China, there is no middle man.  Just by a simple choice of choosing a Fair Trade coffee or tea each day,  you make a difference for a farmer and their family across the world.  Think about it.  Your dollar counts!

The Sustain La Mesa Environmental Festival on September 7th was a great opportunity to meet with people and spread the word about Fair Trade.
Lots of people stopped by to learn about Fair Trade. All were delighted that La Mesa is a Fair Trade Town.

We teamed up with All the Perks Expresso Cafe to promote their Fair Trade Coffee.  Owner Silvana gave out samples to everyone that asked to try it.

Mayor Art Madrid stopped by to show his continued support.  Teen La Mesa, Sabrina M. also learned about the city designation of being a "Fair Trade Town" and was delighted that her school also had some Fair Trade ties.

Join La Mesa Fair Trade at the Sustain La Mesa Environmental Festival this Saturday!

Our booth will feature Fair Trade crafts & women's accessories - including recycled jewelry, t-shirts and lots more.  Here is an opportunity to join the many thousands of today’s consumers who are inspired to add “socially responsible” to their shopping list. To purchase a Fair Trade certified product is to make a difference. The designation signifies that artisans and farmers in the poorest areas of the world have received fair, livable wages for their product or ingredients.

In addition, certain standards must be met in the production process.  These include protecting the environment, building economic sustainability, and providing opportunities for education and health care for families.  Young children are protected from forced labor.

Awareness of Fair Trade is growing in San Diego County and well as in La Mesa.  Stop by our booth and see why La Mesa is a Fair Trade Town and why SDSU is fast becoming a Fair Trade University following UCSD, USD and Pt. Loma Nazarene University.

and the World's first Fair Trade Coffee Liquor!

Why do you want to buy this?
The quinoa grain cultivated by the Incas 5000 years ago at 12-16000 feet above the sea level in the Andean mountains - voted best tasing vodka 2009 & gold medal Chicago medal tasting institute.

Why buy Fair?  - It matters!

FAIR Vodka is both the first and only Quinoa-based vodka and the first spirit made with Fair Trade Certified ingredients. The Fair Trade Spirits Company works directly with communities of small independent farmers that transmit their land from generation to generation. Each farmer owns in average 1 hectare. Their crops are gathered within the cooperative and they are guaranteed a fair price for their work as FAIR respects the international Fair Trade standards. The final product is Fair Trade Certified, at origin by Fair Trade labeling organizations and in the United States by TransFair USA, here in our very own backyard in Oakland. FAIR's model of development is endorsed by the United Nations development programs." From the Beverage Tasting Institute: "93 points (Exceptional) Delicately fruity aromas are evocative of frosted raspberry danish and follow through on a silky smooth entry to a dry-yet-fruity light-to-medium body with cream of wheat and whole milk notes. Finishes with a floral talc, peppery spice, and dried berry accented fade. A very nice, fruity, spicy vodka that will shine with a nice chill or in martinis."

Children came to our booth to find the "Clue 1" for the scavenger hunt.  The answer was Fair Trade bananas!  Our Fair Trade bananas were purchased at Whole Foods in Hillcrest.

The adults and children that attended our talk learned that two years ago there were only 20 Fair Trade Towns in the USA.  Now there are 32.  We were proud to announce that all of our local universities have a stake in Fair Trade!  UCSD and USD are officially FT Universities, Point Loma Nazarene University has filed the final paperwork and SDSU is on its way to become a Fair Trade University.  We are proud to be a part of a growing movement that is making a difference locally and around the world.

Scotland becomes a
Fair Trade Nation!
2/28/13

Scotland has achieved Fairtrade Nation status, becoming just the second country in the world to do so.  In becoming a Fairtrade Nation, Scotland had to meet a range of criteria to demonstrate that it is  delivering a real and lasting impact by contributing to reducing poverty, improving the lives of people that they seek to support and helping them access their rights.

(A World First - Wales was declared a FT nation in 2008!)
